2008 Bayview Mackinac Island Race

For the past 31 years, my favorite place to be in July is aboard a racing sailboat plying the clear blue green waters of Lake Huron on my way to Mackinac Island. The Bayview Yacht Club Port Huron to Mackinac Race is a part of my life that I wouldn't trade for anything. People have often asked me why I haven't become bored with the race after doing it so many times. My reply is that every race is different. Each race is always a new adventure to be shared in the camaraderie of close friends.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend an invitation to every sailor to join us in this year's 84th Bayview Yacht Club Port Huron to Mackinac Race. The starting gun will be fired this year on July 12th. The City of Port Huron will once again be our gracious host for all of the pre-race activities. For the second year we will be sailing the new course that rounds the NOAA weather buoy 43 miles northeast of Alpena, Michigan and continuing to the finish at Mackinac Island. The hospitality and celebration on the island is always second to none. As usual we promise one heck of a party at the finish.

So join us in the fun and adventure and see if you can pick up a flag as well as some lifelong memories. I hope to see you all on the starting line.
