Peter de Ridder prepares for the launch of the new Farr 40 season, with Mean Machine number 21

With barely a moment to put their feet up, the Mean Machine crew are gearing up to grapple with yet another sailing challenge: the new Farr 40 season. The team will face this test with latest addition to the Mean Machine family: number 21, a brand new Farr 40 recently built in the USA.

A new boat and a new season, but the team’s Farr 40 story didn’t start here. Four years ago Mean Machine 16 was born, taking the team into a new era of competition racing, in the most competitive owner-driver one design circuit of the time.



Over the next 3 seasons the team notched up an impressive list of results with victories in some of the world’s most prestigious regattas such as the Miami Race Week, Key West and the SORC in Miami. In the latter two Mean Machine was also named ‘Boat of the Week’. But with other projects to work on, including a highly successful TP 52 campaign, the team raced Mean Machine 16 in her fourth and final season in 2006 competing only in the Worlds. It was the same year the team became double winners of the prestigious MedCup Circuit with the TP 52.

De Ridder has chosen to get back in the Farr 40 race, which is a great way for the team to keep the momentum up, and to put in some tough training for racing across the sailing platform. De Ridder is confident the season will bring some exciting competitive racing, which fits in perfectly with the team’s schedule for 2007-08.

The crew will kick the new Farr 40 campaign off in Miami with the 10th Anniversary Regatta starting on November 30th. After a new year’s break it will be on to Key West, the Miami Grand Prix, the Rolex Pre-World’s and the Farr 40 World’s in Miami in April.
