Mean Machine is fired up for a fresh challenge today as the fierce Farr 40 fleet line up for the start of the biggest challenge of the season, the Rolex World Championships.
The action kicks off in Miami today with the Farr 40 Pre-World’s, two days of highly competitive racing (11-12th April), and the preview for the class World Championships in Miami next week (16-19th April).
This is the competition that the whole fleet has been waiting for. This is a truly star-studded season for the class with the world’s best sailors making up a fleet of 33 super-boats from 10 different nations, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. With such fierce competition and a full fleet there’s not a team on the water that won’t be fighting till the end to make their mark on this class. The World Championships will be a true expression of what makes this sport so attractive – cutting edge design and technology, expert teams from world class arenas such as the America’s Cup, and a tooth and nail battle with the elements out on the water. It’s a truly difficult recipe for success to master, and each and every team are doing everything they can to prepare for what Miami is going to serve up.
Mean Machine will have their own stars on board with Peter de Ridder, Ray Davies,
Dirk de Ridder, Jono Swain, Alan Smith, Tom Powrie, Sander Speet, Joost de Graaff, Sander v.d. Borch and Ivan Peute all geared up to cook up some superb sailing over the next couple of days.
They’ll be looking to improve on the recent 15th place at the Acura Miami Grand Prix and 7th place overall including the Key West Regatta back in January. They’ve got the goods, as they showed back in November at the Farr 40 10th Anniversary regatta, but now it’s time to see if they can add some special ingredients into the mix to push Mean Machine up to the top of the podium.
