Internationally renowned yachting photographer Ingrid Abery will be exhibiting at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA) this summer.
Ingrid has worked on some of the sailing world’s foremost events, including the 32nd America’s Cup, the highly charged TP52 Med Circuit, the Clipper Round The World Race, Super Yacht Cup, the Caribbean Regattas and the glittering Mediterranean Classic Yacht Circuit. She will also be photographing the Olympic Games in Qingdao, China this August.

Ingrid specialises in shooting most water-related sports for both advertising and editorial commissions. Sports covered include yachting, dinghy racing, power boating, kite surfing, windsurfing, water-skiing and barefoot water-skiing among others.

WPNSA, venue for the 2012 Olympic sailing events, is set on the stunning Jurassic Coast, the only World Heritage Site in the UK. An extraordinary sailing venue, catering for all standards of sailors, from Olympic stars to absolute beginners, the Academy has also established a reputation as one of the best events venues in the area. Sir Keith Mills has described WPNSA as “a great example of an Olympic venue, one of the best in the world”.

Mark Stubbings, Chief Executive of WPNSA, comments, “We are delighted that Ingrid will be exhibiting a selection of her work here at the Academy. Ingrid’s passion for the sea and the outdoors speaks through her work. The exhilaration of a scene or a moment in time is conveyed perfectly through her striking images.”

Ingrid Abery comments, “I am extremely proud to be showing my work at the Academy, the home of British sailing. WPNSA is a fantastic venue and one that as a nation we should be very proud of. I hope that the public will have as much fun attending the exhibition as I had in taking the shots! Chasing a maxi yacht offshore from a helicopter or being in a photo boat with a fleet of F1 powerboats approaching at speed you have only seconds in which to make the right decisions, gauge your position, prepare, frame and shoot the subject. It can prove quite an adrenaline buzz.”

The exhibition, sponsored by www.sailingnetworks.com, will run throughout July and August in WPNSA’s function room Spinnakers, which boasts breathtaking views across Portland Harbour and the Jurassic Coast. Entry will be free and all of the shots will be available for purchase.
