About Us

Ovington Boats was started by Dave Ovington in a small corner of his father’s workshop in 1976 where he built wooden boats and in particular race winning Enterprises. With the search for lighter boats and modern materials Dave progressed to using glass fibre and developed the application of vacuum bagged foam sandwich construction for lightweight performance dinghies. He was also at the forefront in the use of high performance epoxy resins and the majority of boats built by Ovington are now made this way. Never one to stay still in this fast developing world Ovington Boats is now using ovens, carbon fibre, infusion, and pre-preg over Nomex cores for a number of its boats. Dave tragically died in 2005 but his legacy lives on in the business and the people who have worked there for many years.

Ovington Boats specialise in the small high performance dinghy market, making and selling the Olympic Class 49er, the ISAF & RYA youth Asymmetric 29er Class, the new 29erxx, the 59er, B14, Flying fifteen, International 14, and 18 foot Skiff. Ovington Boats also makes the Musto Skiff and other boats under contract for a number of companies.
Always looking to bigger boats the Bruce Farr designed Mumm 30 was taken on in 1999. Ovington Boats has now built more Mumm 30’s than any other builder and supplies the boats worldwide. This part of the business has grown and has built Farr 52s and a number of other large keelboats under contract.
