Fairey Marine originally formed the AOA on 7th January 1959, with the object of “Keeping a register of all Atalanta Owners and to further the interests of Owners in cruising and racing”. The Owners Association now run this.
Fairey Marine later produced other drop keel sailing cruisers, the TITANIA, the FULMAR, and the A31 which are now incorporated into the Association.
The Association has the original drawings made by Fairey Marine of the ATALANTA and a limited selection of Fairey drawings for the TITANIA, FULMAR and the A31s. A short history of the Atalanta and other Fairey boats is available along with publications of interest. Copies of original drawings and publications are available to all Members for a small charge.
The Annual Bulletin, includes the known details of the ownership of all boats, and a list of Members, plus Logs and articles of interest. As some of the boats are now over 40 years old many of these articles concern renovation and repair.
There is an AGM/Dinner held each year in January, which has occurred every year since 1959. A race called “The Atalanta Race” is open to the four boats listed above, and organised on the East Coast during during the West Mersea Town Regatta, usually in August and for the first time in some years a weekend rally was held in the Solent area during July 2000.
