Gurnard Sailing Club is located on the shores of Gurnard Bay, a mile or so west of Cowes. The club is solely run by its members with no paid staff, and consequently the membership fees are low and offer great value – although you will be expected to help!
The location is superb with the prevailing south westerlies providing windward starts and reaching legs to the mainland shore. The racing area is set either within Gurnard Bay for the smaller dinghies or the exciting waters of the western Solent for fast reaching and Olympic courses. The tides are strong and provide challenging conditions which make first-class sailors.
We sail all types of dinghy and catamaran from Picos to Prindles and there is a full racing programme with class racing for Dart 15’s, RS 400’s and Picos as well as three handicap classes, on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings. Any class with 6 boats is given its own start.
The programme also schedules cup races on Saturdays and Bank Holiday Mondays throughout the season from March to December. Whenever racing is scheduled the kitchen is open to produce good food at very reasonable prices and the club bar is available for drinks. During the year the club holds supper evenings; in winter with a quiz and in summer the evenings are themed. With a cocktail party for Cowes week, an annual dinner and the hosting of the annual Cowes Dinghy Week the club has plenty to offer all ranges of ability and age. We welcome children and run training courses every year for our members young and old. Come and Join Us
