Salterns Boatbuilders Ltd has lived in its idyllic Hamble River yard since 1996, one of the last traditional boatyards on the River.
With our small team, we build a range of traditional boats and offer for them a repair, renovation and fitout service, as well as designing and building ‘one-off’ boats.
Our philosophy is simple: “form and function”! We build boats that have been designed to work, fit them out to a high standard without any extraneous ‘shiny’ bits, and let them perform. They are not pastiches of traditional boats; they are what they are because that works and, co-incidentally, that looks and feels great!
Each of our boats are built to customer order, and we pride ourselves on giving an individual service. One of the strengths about being a small company is that we can get to know our customers, many return annually for the Christmas Mince Pie and Mulled Wine bash, and a number have become personal friends over the years. Interestingly, there are often many points of interests outside of boats too, classic cars, old bicycles, cider making, all of which seems to us to indicate that there are many people who appreciate the ‘timeless classics’ (does that apply to cider too? perhaps that is another sort of’ timelessness’ found at the bottom of the glass!).
Visitors to the yard are welcome but please contact us first.
