The valley of the Bradshaw Brook was home to the production and treatment of textiles, paper and coal from as early as the sixteenth century. The upper valley was flooded to provide a steady source of water as long ago as 1838 when Entwistle Reservoir became operational.
Entwistle became a source of drinking water in 1876 and Wayoh was built down-stream as a compensation reservoir to protect the flow of water through the brook.
Wayoh, in turn became used for drinking water and it became necessary to provide a further source of compensation water. Thus, the construction of the 56 acre Jumbles Reservoir commenced in 1966. It was officially opened in 1971.
In 1973, the entire area was designated a Country Park.
Jumbles Sailing Club was formed 2 years later in 1975. The Club was founded as a Civil Service Club under the auspices of the Civil Service Sports Council (CSSC) and the Civil Service Sailing Association (CSSA) under whose flag the Club sails. During the 1980s, the Club opened its doors to a wider membership and non-civil servants, Local Members, were admitted.
