Nottingham University Sailing Club

Sailing / Yacht Club

Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, England

About Us

The core of the club is the race team. The majority of competitive university sailing is team racing. This involves teams of six in two man boats (usually Fireflies or Laser II’s). The idea is for your team of three boats to achieve the winning combination of places and involves short races, lots of rules and close quarters boat handling. This year we will be taking part in as many team racing events as possible, throughout the country, all building-up to the BUSA qualifiers and national team racing finals at Easter.

It’s not all team racing though and the first event of the year will be the student fleet racing nationals, which is in Weymouth. The Weymouth nationals always end up being a great event where you get a chance to meet the team, get battered & establish Nottingham as being the coolest, most hardcore team in the country. This year we’re going to be taking as many people as we can cram into a minibus & some boats too & see what happens.

We also compete in the Student Yachting nationals in Portsmouth at Easter. Very similar to Weymouth really – except in yachts!

We will be running a race team selection day on the first Saturday of term. There are 3 teams to fill (1sts, 2nds and Ladies) so please come along & have a go even if your not that good! After we’ve all had a sail & done the trials we have a bit of a BBQ & booze up followed by a big social somewhere in Nottingham. After this we train on Wednesday afternoons, generally followed by a social to the AU night in Nottingham – SO MUCH FUN!!!
