About Us

Durleigh Sailing Club was founded at Hawkridge Reservoir in 1962 and moved to Durleigh in 1992. The clubhouse was built with the help of a grant from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts. The club is run and managed on an entirely voluntary basis.

We are a small, friendly, family club sailing on the Durleigh Reservoir, Near Bridgwater with a sailing area of about 60 acres. The water level stays high and we have sailed right through most of the worst summer droughts.

The Club House, with superb views of the water, has a club room, galley, changing rooms, showers, toilets and ample parking as well as a boat park and a slipway nearby for easy launching.

On Sundays during the sailing season tea, coffee, soft drinks and light refreshments are available from the Club Galley. All profits go towards Club funds

Many different sailboard and dinghy classes are sailed at Durleigh. Monohull dinghies up to 16ft long (min. Portsmouth number 926) are accepted, but longer or faster boats will need committee approval.

You do not have to be able to sail or own a boat to join the Club, because training is available and there are boats for hire.

If you just fancy having a go, we can arrange for you to have a Day sailing on our reservoir for upto three people with an experienced helm using our WAYFARER WORLD sailing dinghy. Please speak to a committee member for details. We are only able to offer this on a Sunday in the sailing season.

The Somerset Youth and Community Sailing Association (an RYA recognised teaching establishment) is based at the club and runs courses for children and adults of all abilities. It has a variety of all abilities. It has a varied fleet of training boats, many bought new in 1999 with Lottery and sponsors help.

Dinghy training activities include the very popular children’s Saturday Sailing Club. Some of our young sailors have competed nationally and DSC/SYCSA hope soon to be awarded VOLVO RYA Champion Club status which will help us develop top class standards of youth race coaching.
