About Us

n the mid to late 70s, several boats had found moorings off Rockley Point in Poole Harbour. During the winter of 1978/9, two couples with boats decided it would be a good idea to form a club. And so, in October 1979 the inaugural meeting was held and Gary Rowitt was elected the first Commodore, with Sharley Simmonds Vice Commodore and Carol Rowitt the first Club Secretary. 3 of the 4 who thought of the idea, thus filled major posts in the embrionic club.

George Taylor, deputy editor of PBO was a mooring holder and joined The Club, and along with Denny Desoutter (Editor PBO), gave practical advice and actively encouraged the new club.

Dave Simmonds another of the original gang of 4, designed a club burgee and gained permission to reproduce the shield of the Poole Coat of Arms on the burgee. Still we believe, unique within the clubs of the harbour.

The Club remains very active, but these days no longer centred on Rockley. The Club retains many original members, but with the passage of time these have moved on to bigger boats and more comfortable moorings in marinas etc. New members have of course joined.

An active programme is arranged for the whole year both off and on the water, with the latter of course at the mercy of the weather.
