About Us

South Cerney Sailing Club is well established in the Cotswold Water Park – in fact we celebrated our 50th anniversary in 2005. Throughout that time people of all ages and from all walks of life have enjoyed sailing on our beautiful 120-acre lake.

At South Cerney we focus on
- dinghy sailing both racing and cruising
- junior and youth sailing
- training
- social events
- windsurfing

Dinghy racing
- From March to October there are pursuit races most Saturday afternoons.
- Sunday is a full racing day with two handicap races in the morning and class racing in the afternoon. Current classes are Albacore, Cadet, Flying Fifteen, Laser, Solo and Handicap with a wide range of boats
- The Coot series comprises seven three-race days held on Sundays through the season, to find the ultimate Club Champion and Junior Champion.
- In summer the popular, fun and very sociable Wednesday evening ‘Hot-dog’ series runs.
- Throughout the winter, racing continues on Sunday mornings. Winter-only membership is available.
- We hold several Open Meetings through the year.

Cruising
Members are welcome to sail at any time and changing rooms with hot showers are always available. On Saturday mornings there is safety boat cover but no race, providing time to potter in peace. In ‘Lets go sailing’ sessions on some Saturday afternoons, experienced sailors offer training and help with rigging or any aspect of sailing for those who want to develop their skills.

Junior and youth sailing
The thriving Cadet squadron provides an excellent springboard for children and young people to take up sailing and develop their skills to a high level.

We encourage and support improving youngsters and have Lasers for hire with 4.7, Radial and full rigs.

Training
We run RYA Recognised courses in sailing and powerboating. These are open to non-members, and to members at a reduced rate.

The Cadet squadron offers a full programme of training for youngsters. We also train our members in various fields including introduction to racing, race management, first aid and galley skills. Each dinghy class provides training at various levels.

Social events
The galley is open to all members for hot drinks and refreshments during Saturday and Sunday throughout the main sailing season, and on Sunday mornings and lunchtime during winter racing.

On Wednesday evenings the unmistakable aroma of hot-dogs wafts across the lake.

The bar is open on Sundays and Wednesday evenings after racing, and for various social events through the year. All members are welcome.

Windsurfing
Windsurfers are welcome at the Club, where they can enjoy one of the largest lakes with the best wind in the Cotswold Water Park. They can use the lake and changing rooms at any time and enjoy the full range of social events.

The Environment
We have been selected to be part of the Green Blue initiative, an environmental education project run jointly by the British Marine Federation and the RYA. The project’s aim is to raise awareness and promote good environmental practice within coastal and inland waters by industry and the boating public alike.
