About Us

The Association was formed in 1990 following the first Round Scotland cruise/race and is recognised by both the RYA and the UIM as the UK National Authority for Rigid Inflatable Boats. The Association represents the views of RIB users throughout the UK and we have members and associates throughout Europe.

The Association Newsletter is RIBLINES which is published five times a year and is packed full of interesting, informative and amusing articles from members, manufacturers and trade sources; it is used for advertising by those who want to get straight to the active RIB owner/user.

The RIBs used by our members range from 4.5m with a single 50hp outboard up to 10m craft with twin diesel engines but the majority of boats are in the 6m to 8m range with single outboard engines and are often kept at home on a trailer.

We have a very active cruising calendar from which members mix’n match; our cruises range from one day events to a whole week with members joining as time permits. Cruises are supported by singles, couples many families and the occasional manufacturer; many racing members will often turn up and their speedy machines add to the general atmosphere, excitement and friendly enjoyment.

Alternatively, cruising members often attend RIB racing events to act as safety boats and to enjoy the friendship and camaraderie for which BIBOA is well known and which is the envy of many other boating clubs. We offer Personal, Family and Corporate membership, we have a written constitution and we use the RYA approved Racing Rules.

Safety at sea figures highly in our activities and we have a Safety Officer as a vital member of our full committee.
