The Yacht Club was established in 1933 by a group of prominent Athenians under the name of YACHT CLUB OF ATHENS.
The Club was renamed in 1936 as YACHT CLUB OF GREECE and between 1940 and 1973 assumed the title of ROYAL YACHT CLUB OF GREECE as King George II and subsequently King Paul and King Constantine graciously accepted the title of the ” Admiral of the Club ” being very keen yachtsmen themselves. Nowadays the club is under the auspices of the President of the Republic.
Its premises lie in Piraeus Peninsula in the historical military Port of Ancient Athens called MOUNICHIA. This picturesque area even in our times retains its ancient name. The contemporary colloquial name is MICROLIMANO which means ” the small port”.
The main club house is situated on the top of a hill at the southwest end of the port which forms a small peninsula with a unique view of the Phaleron Bay, the Saronic Gulf and the islands of Salamis, Aegina and Poros as well as the city of Athens with its surrounding mountains. The slopes of the hill are beautifully landscaped with gardens.
The Yacht Club has also a club adjacent to the Port of MICROLIMANO which is especially situated and set up for sailors to use in leisure clothing and it is especially created to serve participants in all types of sailing events.
The Club has 1550 members which include Regular Members, Diplomatic Members, Naval Associates and Junior Members. There is also a provision for Corresponding Members.
According to the Law, the Club is the advisor to the National Tourism Organisation of Greece on matters of National Tourism providing information to those who are interested in sailing.
The Club provides to its members the following facilities:
* The Clubhouse and the Port Clubhouse with lounges, restaurants, bars and reception rooms.
* Port facilities including berthing slip and crane for small boats, boat houses, storage for sails and equipment and workshops.
* A fleet of Lightnings, Hunters 27 and other dayboats for the use of its members.
Also the Club offers to its athletes a fully-equiped gymnasium.

* 1989 International Lightning Class World Championship
* 1996 International Level Class 40
* 1998 COREL 40 World Championship
* 2003: 420 Junior European Championship
* 2003: Disabled World Championship (organized with the Sailing Club of Piraeus)
Because of the beautiful site and the facilities that our Club offers, it has always been a point of interest to many important visitors in Greece.
