Key Personnel…
Alistair Rumball BA., BAI. – Director & Principal
The business was the brainchild which Alistair set up in 1972. It really was a case of ‘little acorns’ but the business struggled to develop in its infancy. With a small fleet of boats, a Clubhouse that was based on Georges Street in Dun Laoghaire town centre and a struggling Irish Economy, progression and development of the business was slow. However, over the course of time the business moved forward, and in 1990 the Dun Laoghaire Sailing School was renamed The Irish National Sailing School and relocated to its current Clubhouse on the West Pier in Dun Laoghaire. Since then the business has grown to what it is today – the biggest provider of Sailing Courses in Ireland, with over 4,000 learning with us in 2007. Alistair is also an avid Bruce Springsteen fan!
Niall Martin LLB (Hons) – Manager & Vice Principal
Niall attained his Dinghy Instructor qualification in 2000 and since then has worked in a variety of positions in the company. In 2005 Niall set up the Junior Club, which today has become the biggest Junior Section on the island of Ireland. He has also run the Adult Club and presided over Adult Teaching Programmes for several years. In 2005, Niall attained his Senior Instructor, Powerboat Instructor and Keelboat Instructor qualifications. As of January 2008 Niall takes over running the business and is looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead! Niall is a member of the Progressive Democrats and is also a keen golfer!
Arthur Rumball – Director
The upkeep of 100+ boats of our fleet is an unenviable task, and requires careful and daily attention. Put simply, without Arthur’s dedication we wouldn’t have a fleet of boats to sail! Many will remember Arthur from his days running Viking Marine on Georges Street in Dun Laoghaire. As the Sailing School grew, juggling running a busy chandlery and running a Sailing School became too much to handle, so in 1998 Messrs Rumball decided to concentrate on the ‘afloat’ side of things. An avid rugby enthuasist, Arthur is now involved in managing and coaching the Leinster Youths’ setup. Recent triumphs include a victory over England!
Gill Brennan – Accounts & Bookings
Gill takes charge of our bookings and accounts department, and will be the friendly voice on the other end of the telephone when you call to book! Gill has been with the company for over a year and works on a part-time basis with us during the off-season (juggling us with her Business & Legal Studies Course!) and on a full time basis during the summer. A member of Dalkey Hockey Club, Gill is also a big Golf enthuasist!
