Lewmar Classic Winch
Lewmar @ Tue Feb 12 16:18:00 +0000 2008
Lewmar’s latest 111 Classic Winch certainly gives the impression of traditional bronze styling – however this winch is machined from stainless steel and features the very latest three or four speed options.
Coated with exceptionally hardwearing Titanium Nitride, Lewmar’s new Classic winch has a realistic bronze colour that will last for years with the advantage of being much easier to look after and maintain than traditional bronze.
Unlike original one or two-speed classic bronze winches, the integral gear technology of Lewmar’s new Classic Winch offers cutting edge performance that can be driven manually, electrically or hydraulically.
Lewmar tested the original Titanium Nitride coating technology on the J-Class Shamrock V in 2000 – where the finish on the winches is still as good as the day they were fitted. With recent advances in coating technology, Lewmar is now able to achieve a realistic bronze colour, which was used on the set of Classic Winches supplied to the gaff-rigged cutter Lulworth. It is also manufacturing a full set of Classic winches for a schooner currently under construction in Spain.
“A real bonus for the owner and crew is the ease at which the winches can be maintained,” explains Phil Atfield, Lewmar’s Sailboat Market Manager. “These winches will not rust or tarnish, they just need a simple rinse down with fresh water and a gentle polish to keeping them looking their best for years to come.”
Lewmar Launches New Wireless Remote Control for Windlass and Thrusters
Lewmar @ Wed Nov 14 10:30:00 +0000 2007
Lewmar has introduced a 3-Button Windlass and 5-Button Windlass & Thruster remote control kit to its deck accessory range this season. Both controls are operated using wireless technology and are suitable for retrofitting to existing installations wherever a solenoid is installed.
Lewmar’s proprietary encryption scheme uses over 16 million individual codes to prevent false triggering from any other device or similar fob. Kits include a receiver(s) that supports up to eight remote key fobs (additional fobs are sold separately). The key fobs float and are waterproof to IP67.
“It’s important to move around the boat to gain the best vantage point when docking or moving an anchor,” explains Simon Smith, Lewmar’s product manager for windlass. “These new wireless remote controls allow the owner or crew to operate the windlass or thruster from anywhere on the boat, without restriction.”
Price for a 3-button windlass remote control kit from £128 inc. VAT or €169 (ex VAT). The 5-button kit is priced at £205 inc. VAT or €271 (ex VAT).
Lewmar Windlass Upgrade
Lewmar @ Tue Oct 16 14:30:00 +0100 2007
Lewmar’s vertical ‘V-series’ stainless steel windlass for power or sailboats in the 9-metre – 15-metre (30-ft. – 50-ft.) range has been upgraded this season.
New styling, increased power control, additional safety features and ‘FastFit™’ technology have been united to offer an enhanced version of Lewmar’s popular V2/V3 windlass – providing real benefit to customers and builders alike.
The deck unit, cast from 316 stainless steel, has a smooth radius base and is available with or without a stainless steel gypsy drum. Beneath deck, a robust, reliable worm gearbox has been selected to offer maximum strength and control.
Available in 12 and 24-volt versions, with either a V2 gearbox, providing a maximum pull of 760 kg. (1670 lbs.), or V3 to achieve a maximum pull of 1020 kg. (2240 lbs.), the windlass takes rope-chain or all chain anchor rodes at the touch of a button. The windlass design incorporates a fall safe lever to stop the chain from accidentally spilling out. Each model is also ‘chain counter ready’, with a magnet and sensor fitted as standard.
The upgrade V2/3 features Lewmar’s innovative ‘FastFit™’ technology. FastFit™ speeds up the installation process by clamping the drive shaft of the deck unit to the gearbox below deck. A unique ‘Fast Fit Clamp’ is used to secure the gearbox in one of eight positions. Once in place, a locating dowel is pushed home and the clamp shut. Now windlass installation on decks that slope away or offer limited access are made quick and hassle-free.

Lewmar provides a variety of models in the upgraded V2/3 range to suit different chain and rope diameters. Units come with optional gypsy sizes to suit 6-mm, 7-mm, 8-mm or 10-mm chain and rope from 12- to 16-mm. An optional manual override and open pipe version is also available on these windlasses.
