Gill supports the Garmin Powerboat in the 2008 Round Britain Power Boat Race

June 21st 2008 will see the start of the Round Britain Power Boat Race, and Gill is proud to announce that it has provided a full set of clothing to the crew of one very special entry. Already causing quite a stir within the media, is the 39ft Hunton powerboat sponsored by Garmin and skippered by Top Gear cameraman, Iain May, along with Top Gear presenter James May, and DIY SOS presenter, Nick Knowles.

In line with the general ‘Top Gear’ theme, the boat will be officially launched by Jeremy Clarkson in early June, which will then allow for some serious practicing prior to the event start. After the Race, ‘Garmin’ will compete in the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes Race at the end of August.

Gill has provided a selection of its technical marine clothing, for both on-and-offshore use, to all crew members, including Inshore-Lite Jackets, Pro Salopettes, Pro Tops, Deckhand Gloves, i4 Fleeces, Hiking Boots, Rolling Jumbo Bags, Sailing Caps, Classic Sunglasses and, from their Technical Apparel range, both long and short-sleeved T-shirts, quick-drying shorts and trousers.

The Race begins and ends at Portsmouth, with about 80 boats racing into the 10 locations over the 10-day race period. This is the first time that the Race has taken place since 1984, so is guaranteed some keen media interest. In 1969, Iain’s father took place in The Race, finishing in 11th place, so this gives him an added incentive to do well, in order to beat his father’s position!
