One of the most important one design championships, the Swan 45 Worlds will take place from 8-14 September, organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda.

With 23 teams from ten nations registered, the Swan 45 Worlds promise an intense week of racing for the international fleet.

Reigning champion Alex Roepers (USA) will travel to Porto Cervo to defend Plenty’s title to the Swan 45 Gold Cup. With Bill Hardesty and the experienced Plenty crew onboard, it promises to be a tough battle for the prestigious Asprey trophy.

Fleet leaders DSK-Comifin will be fresh from their win at the Copa del Rey and are expected to benefit from sailing in their home waters with tactician Chris Larson and team manager Andrea Casale onboard with owner Danilo Salsi.

With teams from as far afield as Finland and Japan competing, the true ClubSwan spirit will prevail throughout the six days of racing.

It was Danilo Salsi’s DSK-Comifin, with Chris Larson on tactics, that came out on top at the Copa del Rey. With 12 races, the fleet of 16 Swan 45s enjoyed a competitive week of racing in Palma.

In second place was RW Bols with Swan 45 No Limits-Boldit, followed by Tea Ekengren-Sauren in third with Blue Nights. Thanks to a bullet in the final race, the Finnish owner managed to oust Codecasa/Battistella’s Jeroboam Ca’nova for the podium finish.

The next event for the Swan 45 Class is the World Championships organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, from 8-14 September.

Italians at top of the leader board at Copa del Rey

It was a glorious day in Palma and the 113-strong fleet enjoyed excellent conditions. Despite a short-lived postponement ashore earlier in the morning, the breeze came in right as expected at 10 knots and reached up to 18 late in the afternoon. The 30-degree shift that took place in the first race made tacticians work harder.

Blue Nights, the Finnish yacht owned by Tea Ekengren-Sauren wasn’t able to maintain her leadership of the Swan 45 Class after an OCS in the day’s second race.

As a result, Codecasa and Battistela’s Swan 45, Jeroboam Ca’Nova, is now first while Vittorio Ruggiero’s TalJ is lying second.

The podium is entirely Italian, with Danilo Salsi’s DSK-Comifin in third place. Still, the best performer today was Grant Gordon and Klaus Diederichs’ Fever with a 3rd and a 1st, but yesterday’s results didn’t allow her to grab the top spot.

1 Jeroboam Ca’Nova, Codecasa/ Battistella, 5-2-4-4, 15 points
2 Talj, Vittorio Ruggiero, 6-3-1-7, 17 points
3 DSK-Comifin, Danilo Salsi, 2-5-6-5, 18 points
4 Fever, Klaus DiedErichs/G Gordon, 4-14-3-1, 22 points
5 No Limits, RW Bol, 9-6-5-2, 22 points
