The valley of the Bradshaw Brook was home to the production and treatment of textiles, paper and coal from as early as the sixteenth century. The upper valley was flooded to provide a steady source of water as long ago as 1838 when Entwistle Reservoir became operational.
Entwistle became a source of drinking water in 1876 and Wayoh was built down-stream as a compensation reservoir to protect the flow of water through the brook.
