Indian Harbor Yacht Club

The Indian Harbor Yacht Club was founded as a racing yacht club in 1889 by Henry E. Doremus, E. S. Doremus, and Richard Outwater, sailors on the sloop Sirene. The original meeting were held in the freight loft on the pier on the estuary known as Indian Harbor. Shortly afterwards, politician William Marcy "Boss" Tweed invited the club to move into his adjacent Americus Club, a rowdy meeting hall catering to New York politicians.
